With the festive season over it’s time to look towards 2012

(Pulpit View – Hawick News 30 December 2011)

Well, that’s Christmas over for another year. Do you ever wonder what all the fuss is about? Months of planning and spending just for one day of celebration, and now it’s all in the bucket. Except the turkey of course. That’ll last another week at least.

Maybe the dinner was a nightmare. Twelve people crowded around a wee table, wearing silly hats, reading out the same rubbish jokes, dropping the cheap cracker toy in the mashed potato.

Were the presents grand or ghastly? Did you get what you wanted, or will some get returned in the New Year? Did the younger family members fight all the way through your favourite Christmas movie? Or was there relative harmony as you played games together?

Even if you were alone this Christmas, you probably watched one of the Christmas specials Dr Who? Strictly? Downton Abbey? The Queen?

Newspapers and TV picked up on the theme of family – giving opportunity to talk about William and Katherine. But the heart of Her Majesty’s message was the heart of Christmas: love, hope and forgiveness through the birth of a Saviour. Make sure you check him out this holiday time. He could make all the difference for you in 2012.
